Moving and Relocation: Moving Out of a Home
66Household Concerns when Moving
Moving out of your current home is a big step, especially if you are going to be moving to a larger home or even the place of your dreams. There are many different things that need to be considered when you move out of your home, including how to prepare the home itself for your absence. Moving as a whole includes tasks that do not always have to do with the relocation of your things from one place to another. Often, you will be required to handle the care of the home that you are leaving as well. You should be aware of this before you get free moving quotes load up the moving truck rental or hire interstate movers to come get your things.
Getting Ready
One of the things that you should remember prior to moving day is that you can get things ready before the home is cleared out. This means that you can start patching the holes or cleaning up the kitchen before you actual rent a moving truck rental or hire those long distance moving companies. Perhaps the easiest place to start would be areas that you do not use every day. You can patch the holes where pictures once hung easily by applying patch solution that can be purchased from any hardware company.
As you pack your home for the big day, or even as the movers pack for you, you can start to see rooms that you do not use daily empty out. As these rooms empty, you can start to see things that should be repaired before you leave. Taking each room as it becomes available can actually save you time and money by using the time that you do have effectively as you wait for moving day to arrive.
You can also hire local moving services to come in and help you prepare your home for the next tenants. There are professional handymen, painters, and other workers that would be happy to help you get the home in the best condition for whoever will be moving in after you. This is a good way to hand of any house, as extra damage can cause an entire deal to fall through, leaving you in a whole lot of trouble. Just remember, hiring moving services, will cost you an extra fee. Make sure that you take this into account before you hire them.
The Garage
The garage of a home is an important place, and it is just as important to leave it in good condition for the next people who are going to live in the home. One of the best ways to get a jump start on this project is to get the vehicles housed in there on their way to your destination. You can find numerous car shipping and auto transport companies out there, willing to get your car started on its trip. Any one of the good car hauling companies out there will be willing to hold the vehicle as well, if it should arrive at your destination before you actually do. No matter what, make sure that you do not skip cleaning and repairing any problems that you might have with the garage before the new tenants move into the home you are leaving.
Preventing Damage
Damage that occurs on moving day is quite common, but a bit of prevention can make it so that such things just do not occur. You can protect your old home from problems that might happen on moving day, no matter what method you are using. Try to ask the various national moving companies about how they protect against damage to the home when you are calling around for moving quotes. Knowing what they are willing to do to protect the home can actually help you choose one of the cheap moving companies or cheap truck rentalcompanies that you have come across in your research.
You can also protect a home yourself, and you always should, especially if you are planning on moving with a one way truck rental. You can pad door frames and the corners of walls in order to protect them from items and furniture being bumped into them. You can also wrap stair banisters to protect them from scratches. Many moving stores sell padding that is specially made for such moments, and you will find that it is often quite easy to install.
Protecting your carpets and flooring is another important step when you want to prevent damage on moving day. Some stores sell special sticky plastic that can be placed onto all walkways. This plastic will not leave a residue on the carpet or flooring, but it will prevent dirt or other soil from being tracked in on the feet of anyone loading the moving van rental. For hard floors, you might want to consider using cardboard and take, allowing things to fall, yet preventing dents and scratches from occurring.
After the Big Day
Obviously, the easiest way to make sure that your old home is clean and ready to go is to wait until everything has been moved out of the house. No matter how you choose to move, by truck rental, moving company, or self pack moving companies, there are going to be things that were hiding behind furniture or boxes. These things need to be cleaned and fixed before you lock your doors for the last time. You can ensure that you have gotten everything by doing a walkthrough after the belongings are all out of the home.
Make sure that you take the time to clean the bathrooms and the kitchen, making the home livable from the moment that they tenants move in. This will not only make the buyers or new owners happy, but it is a considerate thing to do. No one, including yourself, wants to show up at a new home and face having to clean it before you can live there. Try to be sure that you cover everything that you would want accomplished in the new place that you will be moving into.
No matter where you are moving, or what the reason behind the move is, you should always prepare the home you are moving from to be lived in by new people. Leaving a home in shambles is not a good way to leave a place that has served you so well for so much time.

nice hub. sounds like you are a porfessional mover. Great tips. I hope I never have to move again.
Great tips on moving - I too have moved many times.
My number one tip is to label every box carefully! Yes it's time consuming but... saves heaps of time the other end when it comes to unpacking.
I hate moving....having been in the military, then climbing the corporate ladder, I've done it more times than I care. I wish more people would take your advice to clean bathrooms and the house before they finally leave. I would say that getting ready/organizing is absolutely critical if you want to be able to find things when you unpack. It's frustrating to find kitchen utensils 5 months later in your winter clothes box.
Great information on how to have a successful move. Moving is never fun, but planning ahead can make it a lot less painful.
